Divinity: Original Sin 2 is in full swing, and one of the major issues players are having with the game is Builds. What Build do I use? What’s a good Build for a Warrior? Ranger? Mage? etc. Since the game is rather difficult this has come much more into focus than one would expect. In this Build Guide were going to cover the explosive: Battlemage. Let’s jump into this Build and see just how it works.
Battlemage – Mage/Warrior Build
The Battlemage is a front lines Mage Build that focuses on Pyrokinetic Skills to deal massive damage to its enemies. Battlemages focus on pure Intelligence and get in close and unleash devastating Fire attacks on all nearby enemies. The Battlemage also uses a couple Warfare Skills and Polymorph Skills for mobility, resistance and some extra AoE, because they want to get in close and blast the hell out of foes. Players using this sort of Build will wreak havoc on the battlefield quite frequently so be sure the rest of your party is positioned accordingly and doesn’t take more friendly “fire” than is necessary. I like to run this Build in a party with an Elementalist who then doesn’t have to take any Fire Skills.

The stat sheets on my level 16 Battlemage. This Build just does absolutely devastating damage.
Battlemage Attributes and Equipment
Batllemages focus primarily on Intelligence, but do drop points into Wits and Constitution as well. Intelligence increases the damage of all of your Skills, Wits will increase your Critical Chance and Initiative (both of which are important), and finally Constitution will make sure you don’t get killed while in the firefight. You shouldn’t need to allocate any points anywhere else unless you need just another skill or two on your bar, in which case drop a point into Memory. Just be sure to remove the point and reallocate it when you gain that slot naturally from leveling.
Battlemages wear Armour that is Intelligence-based, so they will have tons of Magic Armour. This is great because you will be walking in fire quite a lot and you don’t want to take damage. The downside is that you will have rather low Physical Armour, making you susceptible to Knock Down. It’s always a good idea to buff your Battlemage near the beginning of the fight with Fortify to prevent this from happening. Place Flame Runes of Power into your Armour to increase your Intelligence and your Fire Resistance. Placing one in your Necklace will increase your Intelligence and Critical Chance, so be sure to do that when you can.
These two Skills actually provide the same amount of Physical Armour, only the one on the left has 10 points into Geomancer, which increases Physical Armour. Both of these are good choices for a Battlemage.
Battlemages will use a Staff for their Weapon of choice, and ideally a Fire one. This will not only allow you Attacks of Opportunity on your nearby foes, but will allow you to utilize the Warfare Skill: Whirlwind to good effects. Since Warfare Skills scale with Intelligence when wielding a Staff, this is a non issue. You’ll want to get a Staff that has Intelligence, Critical Chance and a Rune Slot if possible as this will help to maximize your damage. Putting a Flame Rune of Power into your Staff will increase your Staff attacks and grant you some Intelligence. Note: when choosing gear, you’ll want to prioritize Intelligence/Pyrokinetic, then Critical Chance, then Two-Handed and finally Scoundrel.
Battlemage Abilities and Talents
![Replayability Replayability](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123712997/623887324.jpg)
One of the hardest parts about making a Build in Divinity: Original Sin 2 is getting your Abilities distribution correct. It’s easy to get spread too thin, and often people make the mistake of not spreading points around enough. The bonuses you gain from Abilities in this game are somewhat different than the original, so it’s easy to see why people can get confused. Let’s take a look at what Abilities and Talents you need for a Battlemage.
These are the two main Attributes you will utilize for your damage. When you can’t put any more Attribute Points into Intelligence you’ll want to start dumping Ability Points into Two-Handed to increase your Critical Multiplier as well as melee damage.
When playing a Battlemage you’ll want to max out Pyrokinetic at 10 and have 2 or 3 points into Warfare for skill unlocks. All other points should be placed into Polymorph to get extra Attribute Points to place in Intelligence as well as unlock Flaming Skin and Skin Graft. Once you cannot place anymore points into Intelligence you’ll want to place points into Two-Handed for extra Whirlwind/Attack of Opportunity damage and higher Critical Multiplier on all Skills. Again you can place one point into Geomancer to get Fortify.
As far as Talents go I’d recommend the following:
Elemental Affinity – This Talent shines so hard in this Build I’m not sure you can put enough emphasis on it. Since you’ll be standing in Fire pretty much constantly you will get a shit ton of attacks per round, second only to a Tidalist (which I’ll cover in another Build Guide). Get this one early and never look back. Note: that it cannot reduce the cost of a skill below 1 AP.
Opportunist – This one is really good for this Build because you’re playing with a Staff. Be sure to land near targets with Phoenix Dive to ensure you get these.
Executioner – I cannot decide if Elemental Affinity or Executioner is better for this Build because they both give you about 2 more AP to spend per turn, however, when mixed together they turn your Battlemage into and absolute powerhouse! Take this one 2nd or 3rd.
Savage Sortilege – Very useful later on in the game when you start to focus on optimizing your gear and your Critical Chance starts to rise above absolutely disgraceful levels. Take this one as your 3rd or 4th Talent.
Far Out Man – You have many mid-range Skills with this Build and this Talent can help push the range out just a bit more, improving their effectiveness (AoEs especially).
Torturer – You might get more use out of this Talent then just about any other Build. Not only does extend the duration of your Burning and Necrofire Status Effects, but it also increases the extra damage of Sponataneous Combustion by about 25% per Status Effect.
Demon – Having extra Fire Resistance is never a bad thing for a Battlemage so this Talent fits here. If you decide Torturer is a no go, then take this one instead.
Battlemage Skills
Now that you’ve decided which Talents and Abilities you want, you’ll need to identify just which Skills work best with this kind of setup. Battlemages will use a mix of Pyrokinetic and Warfare Skills to deal massive amounts of Fire damage. Since Builds evolve over the course of the game, I’m going to put the Skills in order from earliest obtainable to latest, because you won’t be able to get them all right way.
Pyrokinetic Skills
Ignition – This is your early game Fire AoE that deals ok damage for 1 AP. It doesn’t hit friendlies, but will hit objects near them, setting them ablaze. Take this early and consider dropping it later on.
Fireball – A great AoE that deals decent damage and can help control the battlefield. Don’t be afraid to cast this exactly where you are standing to trigger Elemental Affinity if there are enemies around you.
Spontaneous Combustion – A great ranged skill that not only deals decent damage, but also consumes the Burning and Necrofire Status Effects of an enemy into instant damage. Try to use only on Burning or Necrofired enemies.
Supernova – This might be the skill that makes the best case for this Build. It costs a hefty 3 AP, but deals incredible damage! Be sure you are standing in Fire when you use to reduce its cost by 1 AP, and be careful not to damage your party members!
Flaming Tongues – Probably the second best skill for this Build, this will essentially gives you multiple Attacks of Opportunity if anyone comes near you for 3 turns. Between this and Opportunist, I can’t see why you’d play a ranged Pyromancer.
Divinity Original Sin 2 Replayability Movie
Master of Sparks – This skill does amazing damage when you use Whirlwind. Sparking Swings only shoots 4 balls out before it wears off, or it would be listed here. This will help you get some more AoE fire damage.
Laser Ray – A great damage dealing skill that can hit multiple targets. Be sure not to hit your own party members and try to be standing in Fire when using to reduce its heft cost of 3 AP by 1. The smoke from it can hide you from ranged attacks.
Epidemic of Fire – This skill requires 3 AP and 2 SP, which makes it a once per encounter type skill. What’s really good about it is that it uses Cursed Fire, meaning you can set the Necrofire Status Effect with it.
Warfare Skills
Whirlwind – Will deal damage based on your Staff type and has decent AoE, especially early on in the game. When combined with Master of Sparks, can absolutely destroy nearby enemies in one attack.
Phoenix Dive – This is your means of jumping into the fray, literally. The fact that it does some Fire damage is just an added bonus. You can replace this with another skill that does the same thing, but you’ll have points in Warfare already anyway.
![Divinity original sin 2 reviews Divinity original sin 2 reviews](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123712997/913011818.jpg)
Challenge – As of February 1st, 2018 this Skill now only costs 1 AP, making it viable for this Build if you put 3 points into Warfare. Buffs Physical and Magic Armour in addition to increasing your damage by 15% for 1 turn.
Thick of the Fight – If you decided to put 3 points into Warfare, I recommend taking this skill. It boosts damage by 10% for each character around you, both friendly and hostile, and it applies to any type of damage.
Polymorph Skills
Flaming Skin – This skill is a great way to mitigate Fire damage against your character if you have poor Fire Resistance. You may not need it later on depending on how well geared you are, but it’s worth having on your bar just in case.
Skin Graft – Because you have some extremely powerful Skills, being able to reuse them quickly will drastically increase your damage. Also removes Burning and Necrofire, which you may need!
Final Tips
Consider adding a point into Geomancer to take Fortify. You’ll have low Physical Armour with this setup and having this skill can address that issue. It also removes Burning, which is useful. If you don’t want to allocate the point, then I advise dropping a few points into Strength just to get a bit more Physical Armour.
Finding a good Staff for this Build can be quite difficult, so your melee damage may suffer. I say that because you should always prioritize a Weapon with better bonuses than better damage for this Build because the majority of your damage will come from non-weapon Skills. Keep in mind that Pyrokinetic increases the damage of Fire Staves so even though you can technically use any Staff, Fire will serve you better in most cases. Praise the Sun if you ever get one with good damage and good bonuses, because they are rare!
This Build is very one dimensional and will under-perform in fights where the enemy has Fire Immunity or very good Fire Resistance. This is the one downside to this Build, but luckily it’s not often. Be sure if you are playing this Build that your party has a wide variety of other damage types to compensate. My Elementalist runs the 3 others just for this reason. You can also use Flay Skin to help reduce Resistances, although it scales with Strength.
Dragon’s Blaze does scale with Pyrokinetic, but not Intelligence. Flay Skin scales with Strength, however, you may need the Nullify Resistance to help deal damage.
Finally, I recommend that you play as a Lizard or The Red Prince when playing the Battlemage. Lizards gain 10% extra Fire Resistance as well as the Dragon’s Blaze skill which does excellent damage for 1 AP, and will increase in damage as you add points into Pyrokinetic. You can of course play as any Race you wish, but I think there is a natural synergy there and is my recommendation.

One our most anticipated RPGs of the year is finally heading out of Early Access and into full-blown release. As would be expected from the previous entry in this beloved role playing franchise, there are a whole lot of replayability elements to be found in Divinity: Original Sin 2, including a robust crafting system.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 includes some big changes to the series in terms of races, classes, spells, and stats. While some of the recipes will look familiar to those who played the first game, others have been tweaked considerably throughout Early Access. In this guide, we've broken out each and every recipe and its base ingredients from arrows to grenades to weapons.
All Divinity: Original Sin 2 Crafting Recipes
Note that many of the recipes included below are interconnected, and a player will be rewarded for trying out new combinations. For instance, you need to be manufacturing certain types of potions if you want to reliably produce elemental arrows.
Arrow Recipes
Although frequently lacking the area affect possibilities of grenades (well, unless you place something flammable on the ground first), many of the elemental and magical arrow effects can be just as useful, with knockdown and charming arrows in particular offering plenty of tactical options.
Note that you actually have to combine the base arrow shaft with the head for each type of arrow to get the final product (such as arrow shaft + slowdown arrowhead for a functional slowdown arrow).

Divinity: Original Sin II is a role-playing video game developed and published by Larian Studios. The sequel to 2014's Divinity: Original Sin, it was released for Microsoft Windows in September 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, alongside an enhanced edition for Windows, in August 2018, and for macOS in January 2019. The game received universal acclaim, with many critics praising its complexity and interactivity, considering it to be one of the best role-playing games of all time. It was also a commercial success, selling over a million copies in two months.
Gameplay[edit]
As with Divinity: Original Sin, players can play fully solo with only one character in their party or with up to three others.[1] Several pre-made characters with backstories are available to the player. Players are also able to create a custom character and choose their stats, race, gender, and origin story at the start of the game. Unlike the original game, players are also given the possibility to create an undead character of one of the available races.[2] They can recruit up to three companions to assist them although mods in the Steam Workshop exist which increase the maximum number of party companions. Companions in your party are fully playable, and will potentially have different interactions with the environment and NPCs than the player character. Players are able to split up and individually control their party members, leading to potentially complex battle tactics, as well as excellent role-playing opportunities. The game features both on-line and local multiplayer modes, both competitive and cooperative.[3] A skill crafting system allows players to mix and change their skills.[4] The game also features a competitive multiplayer mode, where players are divided into two different teams and fight against each other in an arena map.[5]
Plot[edit]
The game is set on the fantasy world of Rivellon, centuries after Divinity: Original Sin. Living beings on Rivellon have a form of energy known as Source, and individuals called Sourcerers can manipulate Source to cast spells or enhance their combat abilities. The Seven Gods of Rivellon had given up a portion of their collective Source power and infused it into a person, Lucian, who became what is known as the Divine, whose role is to use his powers to hold back the Void. However, Lucian died before the start of the game, which weakened the Veil between the Void and Rivellon, and monstrous creatures of the Void known as Voidwoken are beginning to invade Rivellon. Voidwoken are drawn to the use of Source, which has led to the persecution of Sourcerers, primarily by an organization called the Divine Order, whose Magisters enforce their will. The Void is also home to a dark deity known as the God King. At the start of the game, the player character is a Sourcerer who is captured by the Divine Order and sent to an island fortress known as Fort Joy. Fort Joy is a prison for Sourcerers, ostensibly to cure them of their Source powers, but in actuality 'purging' the Sourcerers to turn them into mindless husks. During the journey to Fort Joy, a gigantic Kraken Voidwoken attacks and sinks the ship, but the player character is saved from drowning by a mysterious voice, who calls the player 'Godwoken'.
Awakening on the shores of Fort Joy, the Godwoken witnesses the brutal regime of the Divine Order on the island, led by Lucian's son Bishop Alexandar and his chief enforcer Dallis. The Godwoken also learns of a tyrannical Sourcerer king called Braccus Rex, who had lived and died around 1000 years ago. The Godwoken escapes from the fortress and visits the Hall of Echoes, the realm of the Seven Gods, where the Godwoken encounters one of the Seven. The God explains that he or she was the mysterious voice that rescued the Godwoken from drowning, and that the Godwoken must become the next Divine. This is because the weakened Veil has allowed the Void to enter Rivellon, and the Gods' powers are somehow being drained. Therefore, the ascension of a new Divine is essential to hold back the Void.
The Godwoken escapes from The island, but Dallis intercepts the Godwoken during their journey, aided by a mysterious hooded figure called Vredeman, who uses powerful Source spells. However, the Godwoken manages to get away.
The Godwoken sails to the island of Reaper's Coast, which is also under Divine Order control. There, the Godwoken gradually expands their Source powers until they achieve mastery of Source. The Godwoken also encounters their God again, who instructs the Godwoken to the Well of Ascension, where the Godwoken will be able to absorb enough Source to become Divine. During their time on Reaper's Coast, the Godwoken also learns that Dallis and the Magisters have excavated the Aeteran, a powerful artifact with an infinite capacity for purging Source. Additionally, the Godwoken encounters an immortal being called Aeterna. Aeterna claims that she is a member of a race known as Eternals, who were the original denizens of Rivellon. The Seven Gods were themselves Eternals, but they craved the power to rule as gods. To accomplish this, the Seven betrayed the other Eternals and banished them to the Void, and then created the mortal races of Rivellon in their own likeness, from whom the Gods would be able to drain large amounts of Source and become supremely powerful.
The Godwoken sails to the Nameless Isle where the Well of Ascension is located. There, they learn that the Eternals in the Void have become the Voidwoken, and that the king of the Eternals before their banishment is the deity now known as the God King. Furthermore, the God King and the Voidwoken intend to return to Rivellon and reclaim their rightful home. The Godwoken makes their way to the Well, but before they can absorb the Source within and become Divine, Dallis appears with the Aeteran and destroys the Well. The Godwoken's failure to become Divine enrages their God, who attacks the Godwoken in desperation, but the Godwoken defeats their God.
The Godwoken pursues Dallis to the Tomb of Lucian, located in the harbor city of Arx, but finds that Lucian is alive in it. Lucian reveals that he faked his death and hid in his tomb, and it is he, and not the Void, that has been draining Source from the Seven. Lucian intends to purge all Source from Rivellon and use it to permanently seal the Veil, which will finally bring peace to the world. Dallis, who is secretly an Eternal, has been aiding Lucian. To this end, she has resurrected Braccus Rex, who has been serving Dallis under the name of Vredeman.
Braccus Rex breaks free of Dallis's control and summons the Kraken to attack the Godwoken, Lucian, and Dallis. After Braccus Rex is defeated, the Godwoken can choose from several endings, such as ascending to become the next Divine, purging all Source from Rivellon, releasing the Source and the powers of Divinity to the world, or allowing the God King to return to Rivellon and restoring the land to Eternal rule.
Development[edit]
The game was first announced on August 12, 2015.[6] It was announced that the game would launch on Kickstarter on August 26.[7] The game reached its $500,000 goal on Kickstarter in less than 12 hours.[8][9] Some of the stretch goals were reached before they were even announced.[10] In the end, all of the available stretch goals were met, with over 2 million dollars collected in total. Larian announced that the company decided to head to Kickstarter again because they wanted the opinions from the community when developing the game, as well as allowing them to further expand the vision they originally had for this game.[11] The game's music was composed by Borislav Slavov, who replaced former series composer, Kirill Pokrovsky, who died in 2015.[12]
The game was released for early access for Microsoft Windows on September 15, 2016,[13] and was fully released out of it on September 14, 2017.[14] Despite a power outage in Ghent on the day of launch, the location of Larian's development studio, the game was successfully released and shortly had a concurrent player count of 75,000 within a week, becoming one of the most played games on Steam at the time.[15][16] In addition to a free 'enhanced edition' update for owners of the original game, it was also released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by Bandai Namco Entertainment on August 31, 2018.[17][18][19] It was also released for macOS on January 31, 2019.[20]

Divinity: Original Sin II received 'universal acclaim', according to review aggregatorMetacritic.[21] Multiple critics and publications considered the game to be one of the best role-playing games (RPGs) of all time.[26][27][28][29][34][35][33] Rick Lane of Eurogamer considered it a 'masterpiece', thinking it would be many years before he could play another RPG that was even close to being 'that rich with choice and charisma'.[36] Adam Smith of Rock, Paper, Shotgun thought that few games allowed players to take part in better tales than Original Sin II.[37] Leif Johnson of IGN highly praised the stories, quests, tactical combat, and replayability, calling it one of the all-time greats of the RPG genre.[28] GameSpot gave it a perfect 10/10 score, becoming only the 14th game in the publication's history to achieve that.[27] Mike Williams of US Gamer called it the 'pinnacle' of the computer role-playing game (CRPG) genre, praising its characters, role-playing options, environments, and combat.[31]Metro called it one of the best computer role-playing games ever, praising its level of complexity, flexibility, and interactivity.[33] Janine Hawkins of Polygon was less positive than most, calling it 'stunningly ambitious', but that it failed to 'pull all its pieces together'.[30]
A month after release, the game sold over 700,000 copies, with over a million sold by November 2017.[38][39] The game was nominated for 'Best Role-Playing Game' at The Game Awards 2017;[40] it was also nominated for 'Game of the Year' and 'Best Story', and was a runner-up for best PC game and best RPG at IGN's Best of 2017 Awards.[41][42][43][44] The game also received a nomination for 'Best PC Game' at Destructoid's Game of the Year Awards 2017.[45] The staff of PC Gamer voted it as their game of the year for 2017, where it was also nominated for the 'Best Co-Op Game' award.[46] The staff of GameSpot voted it as their fifth best, while Eurogamer ranked it 11th on their list of the 'Top 50 Games of 2017'.[47][48][49] Readers and staff of Game Informer gave it the 'Best PC Exclusive', 'Best Turn-Based Combat', and 'Best Side-Quests' awards,[50][51][52] and also placed it second for the 'Best Co-op Multiplayer' award.[53] The game was also nominated for 'Role-Playing Game of the Year' at the D.I.C.E. Awards,[54] for 'Game Engineering' and 'Game, Franchise Role Playing' at the NAVGTR Awards,[55][56] and for 'Best Sound Design for an Indie Game' and 'Best Music for an Indie Game' at the Game Audio Network Guild Awards;[57] and won the award for 'Multiplayer' at the 14th British Academy Games Awards.[58] It was also nominated for 'Music Design' and 'Writing or Narrative Design' at the 2018 Develop Awards.[59] The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were nominated for 'Best RPG' at the 2018 Game Critics Awards,[60][61] and won the award for 'Best Role-Playing Game' at Gamescom 2018, whereas its other nomination was for 'Best Strategy Game'.[62][63]

SO I only just finished act 1 and got off the boat, and I plan to play through the rest of the game as best I can, but This game has so much to offer. I have to know what kind of replay value can I get out of this. I know I can try the game again with all the party members I didnt use, and new classes/builds, but what else is there I can do? Are there any sort of playthrough 'styles'? Like, lone wolf would be one style, maybe a no mercy style, or something else like that? I'm also playing modless rn to get some achievements for fun, but on the second playthrough I might go for mods. IDK, anyone know what I could do differently the second time around?

So I have actually only had this game for a day and I've so far sunk about 6 hours into it. The initial impression is a very good one and I was loving it in a similar way I was loving Zelda: BOTW when I first started playing that as well. But then the bugs started seeping through, particularly when it comes to quest completion, and sometimes the game starts feeling a little aimless. Both of these things were common critiques with the first game, as well. That said, it's obviously an improved version of the first game but I think I need more time with it before forming a real opinion on it. So in the interim, I thought I'd make a post, and give people a chance to give their impressions with it after some time has passed.
One of the best things about that game, however, is knowing the studio behind it will support this game for quite some time to come. It's comforting knowing the game is in good hands.
